SoloRack vs MacMiniVault: the same M6 for $112 a month

SoloRack and MacMiniVault both rent a dedicated Mac mini M6 with 16 GB and 256 GB. Compare price, short rentals, renewals, your data and support.

MacMiniVault has hosted Macs for many years and runs data centers in Milwaukee and Phoenix, and its entry M6 plan uses the same Mac mini configuration we rent. That makes this an easy comparison: same machine, different price, rental length, rules and location. Everything below comes from what each company publishes on its own site.

The short version

  • Lower monthly price for the same machine. An Apple M6 with a 12-core CPU, 16 GB and a 256 GB SSD costs $112 a month with us and $149.99 a month at MacMiniVault.
  • Rent for a day or a week. A 24-hour pass is $19 and a 7-day pass is $49. At MacMiniVault the shortest term is one month.
  • Written rules for renewals and your data. Reminders 3 days and 1 day before renewal, 24 hours to fix a failed payment, and no copy of your files kept after your rental ends.
  • An EU datacenter and human support in six languages.

Price: the same Mac mini M6 for less

The spec match is exact: Apple M6, 12-core CPU, 16 GB of memory, 256 GB SSD. We charge $112 a month and you can cancel whenever you like in the Stripe customer portal. MacMiniVault lists $149.99 a month for the same configuration. Paying a year in advance there takes 10% off, which still works out at about $135 a month. MacMiniVault charges no setup fee.

The bigger difference shows up on short jobs. Plenty of developers only need a Mac for an afternoon: sign a build, upload to App Store Connect, check a bug that only appears in the iOS Simulator. With us, that is a $19 pass for 24 hours, or $49 for a full week if you are working through review feedback. At MacMiniVault the shortest option is a month, which suits a long-running server; for a single upload, you still pay for the whole month.

Renewals and your data

Losing a working Mac because a card expired is one of the most frustrating ways to lose a day. So we put our rules in writing:

  • Monthly plans get reminders 3 days and 1 day before renewal. Passes get a reminder 2 hours before they end and another 30 minutes before.
  • If a payment fails, you get an email with a link to update your card, and 24 hours to fix it, with the Mac untouched and still reachable.
  • When a rental ends, your account and files are deleted within minutes. We keep no backup or copy, and the whole Mac is erased before the next customer.
  • We never wipe a Mac without warning: our reminders tell you to download your files and export your signing certificates first.

MacMiniVault’s FAQ and terms do not describe renewal reminders or a grace period. Its terms say customers are responsible for keeping their own backups, and it offers external drives (HDD or SSD) you can use for Time Machine or a clone. To cancel there, you write in by email or support ticket. The cancellation counts once MacMiniVault confirms it in writing, and it takes effect at the end of the billing cycle. There are no refunds for past or unused periods. If you prepaid a longer term, you can ask for a pro-rated refund of the full months you have not used, minus the prepaid discount.

Support and languages

MacMiniVault offers 24/7 email support through its ticket system and phone support from 8am to 5pm US Central time. If a Mac stops responding, its staff will connect a monitor and keyboard to it for free during business hours. Outside those hours, emergency hands-on support costs $150. Its site and support pages are in English.

Our support is by email, from people, in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Turkish and Arabic. If English is not your first language, being able to explain a signing error in your own words can save time on both sides. Location matters too: if you work from Europe, a Mac in an EU datacenter is much closer to you than one in Wisconsin or Arizona. Shorter distance usually means lower latency, so remote desktop feels more responsive.

Getting started from Windows

If you build with Flutter, React Native or .NET MAUI on Windows, you still need macOS for the iOS build and the upload. MacMiniVault’s FAQ explains SSH from Windows with PuTTY, and VNC desktop access through macOS Screen Sharing or most VNC apps on Linux. For RDP, it recommends NuoRDS, which it will install if you send your own licence key.

With us, you get remote desktop from Windows, macOS or Linux, plus SSH, and full admin rights on the machine. You install Xcode yourself with your own Apple Account, so your certificates and team settings stay under your control. You pay on Stripe’s hosted checkout with 3D Secure. Businesses can add their VAT number at checkout. MacMiniVault accepts major credit cards and PayPal.

Who MacMiniVault suits

MacMiniVault has a long track record and a broad catalogue. It offers Mac minis from Intel to M5 Pro, with up to 64 GB of memory and 2 TB of storage, plus Mac Studio rentals and colocation for a Mac you already own. Phone support, hands-on help in the data center and an annual billing discount make it a reasonable choice for US-based teams running long-lived build servers.
